The economy has caused many homes to become foreclosed or abandoned. As abandoned homes slide into disrepair, they make neighborhoods look less welcoming and decrease the value of the houses around them. It’s become clear that the cycle of falling home prices needs to stop. As a result, the City of Los Angeles’ Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) is being implemented to reduce the number of vacant properties and stabilize home values in the Los Angeles area. With grants from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Los Angeles Housing Department is rehabilitating abandoned or foreclosed homes in order to stabilize neighborhoods.
